Our research explores mental imagery and mental health
Intrusive memories (commonly known as “flashbacks”) after trauma are unwanted mental images from the event that persist and cause distress.
Mental imagery has a powerful impact on emotion. It is fascinating in its own right in terms of better understanding the science of mental life. Mental imagery also has relevance to mental health.
Our research seeks to develop strategies to manage problematic mental imagery, such as intrusive memories. We work on studies in the laboratory and clinical trials. Taking a mental health science perspective can help open new intervention approaches for our mental health toolkit.
